The longstanding partnership between Mijksenaar and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has led to groundbreaking wayfinding solutions based on the core principles of orientation, navigation, and experience. For nearly 30 years, Mijksenaar has served as Schiphol’s strategic wayfinding consultant. Together, we have developed the “Total Airport Concept” – a holistic wayfinding design that facilitates efficient airport operations and provides travellers with an optimal experience.
On every step of the journey
The key focus is to deliver the right information in the right way at the right time to passengers and visitors. This reduces stress, improves facility utilization, and supports the airport’s commercial development.Mijksenaar has developed wayfinding for all aspects of the airport process – from approach roads and parking to the terminal building.
We also support Schiphol in integrating digital innovations, such as custom pictograms, PRM provisions, and color schemes. Throughout, the user perspective of travelers and visitors guides our work. Over the years, the wayfinding system has been continuously expanded and refined. Clear guidelines, with Schiphol’s iconic yellow signage, create a calm and consistent environment. This leads to positive experiences and efficient flows for passengers, who recognize Schiphol as their destination. Schiphol has long been regarded as one of the world’s best airports for wayfinding. This leading position is in large part due to the longstanding collaboration with Mijksenaar. Together, we remain focused on optimizing orientation, navigation, and experience for all airport users.
Mijksenaar also supports Schiphol in broader aviation changes, such as the transition to a multimodal hub. Our wayfinding solutions continue to evolve to meet these dynamic needs.
